The Lake County Fire Safe Council (LCFSC) convenes partners to coordinate wildfire resilience work and standardize messaging across Lake County and empowers all residents with the educational, physical, and financial resources to proactively protect their family, property, and community from wildfire.
Local Fire Safe Councils
A Fire Safe Council is a grassroots, community-based organization that works to create resilient communities through education and hazardous fuels reduction projects. In Lake County, we have three local Fire Safe Councils in addition to our county-level Fire Safe Council: Konocti Fire Safe Council, Redbud Fire Safe Council, and South Lake Fire Safe Council.
Firewise Communities
A Firewise Community is a neighborhood or area formally recognized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) that has voluntarily taken action to reduce its wildfire risk through education, collaboration, and property mitigation.
Lake County Fire Safe Council Programs
In addition to managing the 2023 Lake County Community Wildfire Protection Plan, providing direct support to local Firewise Communities, and leading outreach and educational activities throughout Lake County, LCFSC currently administers two programs for Lake County residents, community-based organizations, and local agencies.
The Mobile Tool Cache Program provides residents with free access to an inventory of tools and protective equipment to complete fuels reduction and maintenance work on their properties.
The Defensible Space Program provides fuels reduction services to Lake County residents in high-risk areas to maintain the 100-foot zone around their homes.
