Native Plant Project

There are many advantages to landscaping with California native plants. They provide outstanding natural habitat and are usually drought tolerant; many are fire-resistant, deer resistant and in the right location, easy to grow. Imagine your front yard filled with the eye catching hues of Wooly Blue Curls and Scarlet Monkey Flowers. Bring in bees with Cleveland sage, Foothill Penstemon, and Scarlet Bugler.  Or, try your hand at creating a fairy garden using Yellow Stonecrop, and Canyon Dudleya.

To spread the word about the value of using California natives in the home garden, in the fall of 2018 LCRCD hosted two successful plant sales in collaboration with the UCCE Master Gardener program at the Ag Center (889 Lakeport Blvd) with funding from the state Department of Conservation. The sales were repeated in the spring of 2019, and will be held again at the Ag Center (889 Lakeport Blvd) on October 19, 2019.

Master Gardeners will provide informative talks on the benefits, care, and culture of native plants --  bring your garden questions and join us! Download a list of plants that will be available at this sale.
