Approximately 80 fourth grade students from Coyote Valley and Minnie Cannon elementary schools participated the 2019 Field Days event, which was held on Thursday May 23, 2019, at Diamond D Ranch outside Middletown. The emphasis of this interactive educational event on the banks of Putah Creek was on seeing, touching, and learning about the natural world and natural resource management in an outdoor setting.
Presenters included a CalFire crew and their truck, Katherine Vanderwall from the Ag Department talking about native and invasive plants, RCD Director Dr. Harry Lyons giving a presentation on native trees, Mark Miller of the Department of Water Resources on invasive mussels and other aquatic pests, Dean Enderlin with some hands-on geology, and Erica Lundgren from Mendocino NRCS delving into the mysteries of soil.
After the presentations, lunch and a visit from Smokey Bear!
