The 2017 Field Days event was held on Wednesday May 24, at Diamond D Ranch outside Middletown. Approximately 75 fourth grade students from Coyote Valley and Minnie Cannon elementary schools participated in this interactive educational event on the banks of Putah Creek, where the emphasis was on seeing, touching, and learning about the natural world and natural resource management in an outdoor setting.
Presenters included a Mendocino National Forest crew and their truck, Katherine Vanderwall from the Ag Department talking about native and invasive plants, RCD Director Dr. Harry Lyons giving a presentation on native trees, Carolyn Ruttan of the Department of Water Resources on invasive mussels and other aquatic pests, Dean Enderlin with some hands-on geology, and Ben Ewing from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife demonstrating electrofishing.
After the presentations, lunch and a visit from Smokey Bear!
